Six Sigma training has become a coveted trait in any employee. Certification in Six Sigma system business methodology is obtainable to those who are new to this philosophy and those who have experience and wish to increase their skill and knowledge. There are several Six Sigma educational programs available. One should match your needs, budget, and schedule.

Six Sigma is a data motivated business approach. It entire concentration is on the improving processes and customer satisfaction. This training commences with the Six Sigma system and philosophy. Then teaches students how to incorporate the Six Sigma methodology into their companies culture. The experience one has of Six Sigma methodology is denoted by belt colors, very similar to those used in martial arts. The Yellow Belt certification is given to individuals who are new to Six Sigma, whereas the Black Belt is issued to those who have experience.

Yellow Belt certification is approximately one week of training, involving problem solving, and process optimization methods. It is for all staff members, administrators, operations personal, project team members---everyone, technical and non-technical. All employees can identify measurement scales, define critical process factors, collect data, characterize processes, make improvements, and create opportunities for their company. The goal of the Yellow Belt is to think in terms of cause-and-effect and apply this process to their work area. It is important to remember that Yellow Belts are the basis support of the Black Belt and Green Belt projects.

Green Belt training last about two weeks. The individual will be instructed on Six Sigma DMAIC methodology, analytical problem solving, and change management methods. It is ideal for current managers, professional staff, operational specialists, and executives wishing to understand the Six Sigma System. Green Belt Certification will train you to solve the majority of process problems, in both the transaction and manufacturing environments. Green Belts train local personnel to apply Six Sigma strategies, tools, as well as coach local personnel by one-on-one support, and should make up about 10% of the company.


Black Belt training is approximately a month long. Those who are certified as Black Belts have been trained in Six Sigma DMAIC methodology, analytical problem solving, change management methods and are full time Six Sigma team leaders. Black Belts should make up about 2% of your corporation. Their responsibilities are: Implementing Six Sigma projects, (many Black Belts implement and complete as many as 4/year), Mentor and coach Green Belts, Discover internal and external opportunities for new Six Sigma projects. Master Black Belts (MBBs) are the trainers. This individual has additional training and Six Sigma experience that goes beyond Black Belt. They have achieved Black Belts and have teaching skills, which qualifies them to teach and mentor other Black Belts and support Champions.
